ShotGrab for Mac — Privacy Policy

Last updated 19 October 2026

In short

ShotGrab for Mac runs on your Mac: your photos, videos, file names and folder paths are never sent anywhere. There is no account. The app does talk to a few services — anonymous usage signals, licensing and update checks — described below.

Who we are

ShotGrab is made by Gabriele Rinaldis. For anything about this policy or your data, write to team@shotgrab.net.

What stays on your Mac

Projects, destinations, filters and the history of imported files live in a local database on your Mac. The license key is kept in your Mac's Keychain. The free-quota counter is kept in two independent local files. None of this is transmitted to us.

Anonymous usage signals (TelemetryDeck)

ShotGrab sends a small number of anonymous usage signals — for example, whether an import finished, was cancelled, or hit the free quota, whether the upgrade sheet was shown, and how many files were involved — to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics provider based in Germany. These signals never include file names, folder or volume paths, project names or anything else that could identify you: TelemetryDeck assigns your Mac a rotating, salted identifier that can't be tied back to you or to any other app. See TelemetryDeck's own privacy policy.

Licensing (Dodo Payments)

Purchases are made on a Dodo Payments checkout page opened in your browser; Dodo Payments is our payment processor and merchant of record, and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your card. When you activate a license, the app sends Dodo Payments the license key and your Mac's host name, so the key can be tied to one device, and checks it again periodically.

Your email address

When you buy a license, Dodo Payments collects your email address and shares it with us as part of the purchase. We may use it to contact you about your purchase and license — for example to help with activation, billing or refund problems — to ask for your feedback on ShotGrab, and to offer you discounts or promotions. We don't sell your email address or share it with anyone for their own marketing. You can tell us at any time, at team@shotgrab.net, that you don't want feedback requests or offers, and we'll stop; messages that are strictly about your purchase or license may still be sent.

Updates (Sparkle)

The app checks for updates by downloading a feed file from shotgrab.net. Like any web request, this exposes your IP address to our web host, which may keep it in standard server logs. The app does not send a system profile with the request.

Your rights

The data about you that we can hold is limited to the anonymous signals above and what Dodo Payments keeps for your purchase. For questions or requests, write to team@shotgrab.net.
